Somewhere out there
Measuring 36 × 48 inches, this acrylic painting invites viewers into a quietly intriguing conversation between the cosmic and the familiar.
A luminous circle positioned in the upper left radiates beams that cut diagonally across the canvas, subtly revealing a feline face nestled within the light itself—both elusive and oddly comforting. The background shifts thoughtfully, moving from a deep, star-speckled night sky toward a calming blue expanse that echoes the surface of water.
This transition effortlessly balances the vastness of space with the grounded tranquility of earth. Scattered geometric shapes—two bold yellow rectangles alongside smaller circles—introduce moments of structure and rhythm, guiding the eye through the composition.
The interplay of vivid and muted tones enhances the dreamlike quality without overwhelming, inviting reflection and discovery in equal measure. Layers of light, texture, and form come together with an unhurried confidence, crafting a scene that feels both otherworldly and emotionally resonant.

There are layers of ideas under this curious piece. I started with an acrylic splash painting using vibrant colors and tilting the canvas all directions to spread the paint.
I then covered the entire canvas with white paint and sanded several areas to bring the background back to the surface.
And finally, I let my imagination flow through to the canvas in addition to a friends photos of the sky and water.
