My Backyard
Recently hanging at the Mint Museum Uptown Charlotte as part of the Guild of Charlotte artists exhibit.
This 36 × 36 inch piece captures the essence of a familiar outdoor space through a harmonious blend of acrylic paint and collage. The composition centers on a group of tall, slender trees whose trunks are rendered with an abstract mosaic of colors. This intricate patterning introduces an unexpected vibrancy and energy, contrasting with the more natural elements, such as the soft, atmospheric sky and the calm blue river that flows horizontally across the middle ground. The grassy riverbank grounds the scene, inviting the viewer into a moment that feels both intimate and expansive. By weaving together abstract textures with recognizable forms, the work offers a fresh perspective on landscape painting—rooted in observation, yet open to imaginative interpretation.
